What’s In A Name

If you’ve seen the “lip my stockings” scene from LiT or heard someone say “have a good fright”, you’ll know that the Japanese are renowned for getting ‘r’ and ‘l’ mixed up. They don’t have an ‘l’ in their alphabet, and their pronunciation of ‘r’ is somewhere in between.

So you can imagine trying to pronounce or spell “Phil”. With no ‘ph’ sound either, the phonetic spelling closest to resembling my name is “Fu-i-ru”.

And if you thought that my first name is tricky for the Japanese, imagine when I tell them my surname.
