Phil: Today we're going to look at 'borrow' and 'lend'. Do you know what they mean?
Student: No idea. I don't know.
Phil: Ok, Tomoko, can I borrow your pen?

She automatically hands me her pen, and we look at eachother a little confused.

Phil: So you do know it!?
Student: Umm...

We both laugh.
